Job Details:
1. Position Purpose
The SAP Technical Administrator designs, builds, operates and optimizes
the SAP environment for all of the company's operations, develops
and implements projects to improve the generation and usability
of information, and actively pursues sound business and security
practices to protect the companys technical information. The
SAP Technical Administrator reports to the IT Manager, and has no
direct reports. This position:
a. Supports SAP infrastructure for 200+ users.
b. Manages projects with values up to $100K
2. Essential Functions, Position Responsibilities
* Implement and maintain the multiple SAP clients/instances that
comprise the SAP environment (development, test, training, sandbox,
and production).
* Implement and maintain EDI connectivity with our business partners
by managing day-to-day EDI messaging, configuring new connections,
altering and establishing maps, and working with consultants on
a project basis to develop new maps and connectivity.
* Maintain the integrity of the SAP environment by managing the
SAP Correction and Transport System (CTS) to ensure all configuration
and development objects are promoted properly.
* Introduce technical changes into the environment using a structured
approach that minimizes risk and achieves high reliability, availability
and performance of each SAP instance.
* Design and implement an optimal SAP configuration to maximize
system performance and availability.
* Install, configure, and monitor all required SAP database servers
and application servers.
* Monitor and manage the SAP/Redwood background job workload.
* Configure and manage the SAP printing subsystem for all SAP instances.
* Maintain SAP performance by planning and executing SAP tuning
strategies.
* Monitor all SAP systems (work processes, users, system logs, short
dumps, locks, developer traces, system traces, disk space, etc.).
* Administer the SAP database (plan and perform database upgrades,
apply database maintenance, design and maintain physical database
layout, perform database reorganizations, design and implement backup
and restore strategy, maintain database security, administer database
performance, manage database storage, database problem determination
and resolution, etc.).
* Perform SAP client administration (create client, copy client,
delete client, export/import client) as required.
* Assist in the design, testing and installation of the SAP data
archive process.
* Participate in the planning and implementation of SAP system upgrades.
* Apply and migrate SAP maintenance (hot packages and kernel upgrades)
through all systems using a structured methodology.
* Develop and maintain system documentation for all SAP instances
and interfaces.
* Establish the SAP Online Service System (OSS) connection with
SAP to obtain maintenance and support information.
* Provide status reports for projects to management.
* Establish outside vendor relationships in support of systems development
efforts.
* Provide consulting services to other areas as required.
* Administer OpenText for document storage
3. Describe the skills and knowledge required to perform effectively
in this position and indicate what education and experience are
required to obtain that knowledge.
* Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent work
experience.
* Demonstrated experience using SAP tools such as SAPDBA, CCMS,
BRBACKUP, BRARCHIVE, and SQL Trace.
* Strong understanding of SAP client management strategies and the
SAP transport system.
* Detailed understanding including the ability to monitor, tune
and troubleshoot the database system used in the SAP environment.
* Experience supporting SAP in a MS-SQL 2005 / 2008 environment.
* Experience supporting SAP in a Windows environment (preferably
2008).
* Experience supporting EDI with SAP in a Sterling GIS 5.0 environment.
* Experience supporting SAP in a manufacturing or warehousing environment,
using RF data collection.
* Demonstrated experience with the underlying operating system and
hardware platform used in the SAP environment.
* Experience design and support of backup/recovery and disaster
recovery for an SAP system.
* Experience in technical infrastructure and/or operations support.
* Strong analytical, problem solving, and conceptual skills.
* Strong customer focus. Must work well with customers of varying
levels of technical expertise in high-pressure situations and complex
environments.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability
to communicate to various levels of management.
* Ability to adapt to changing business processes, technologies,
and environments.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Strong desire and ability to quickly learn, become competent in,
and apply new skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Must be proactive and able to work with minimal supervision.
* Ability to work on cross-functional teams.
* Ability to work in pressure situations.
* Occasional travel for projects.
* 3-5+ years of experience managing SAP environments.
Salary: $55,000.00 to $60,000.00
